Payote is a young brand of espadrilles made in France, born in Perpignan, between the freshness of the Pyrenees and the fragrance of the Mediterranean. Created by Olivier Gelly, a young, connected entrepreneur, Payote reinvents the traditional rope sandal with a quirky graphic flair. Its collections break with traditional codes and stand out for their originality.
Inspired by numerous explorations and the Mediterranean art of living, they share an epicurean vision of the world in the spirit of the "Dolce Vita" of vacations in the sun. You'll find plain espadrilles in cotton canvas, striped models for seafaring feet and printed espadrilles in a wide variety of patterns. All models are made in France from comfortable materials that are as eco-responsible as possible. The brand also thumbs its nose at the seasonal nature of espadrilles by offering a collection of lined espadrilles for winter.

Payote, the name chosen, is a nod to the region where the brand was born. Olivier was inspired by a child leaving a Catalan school asking for his teddy bear, calling it "pellote". In Catalan, "pellote" means "chiffon", and children commonly use this word to refer to their cuddly toy. Payote has another meaning under its sole: written differently, "paillote" is a small beach hut reminiscent of summer. Perfect for recalling the brand's flagship product, French espadrilles.
