Built in 1368, the Castillet is a monument of Baixas brick and marble.
Initially a fortified gateway designed to protect the town, it later became a state prison between the 17th and 19th centuries.
Today, a vestige of the ramparts and emblem of the city, the Castillet is the museum - Casa Pairal, a museum of Catalan Arts and Traditions, which traces the history of Perpignan and its popular customs.
Inside the Castillet is the Canigou Flame, used to light the traditional Midsummer bonfire.
Finally, if you climb the 142 steps, you'll have a superb panoramic view of the city and the Roussillon plain.
